Northeastern cities have the most car accidents

Vehicle accidents are still a major cause for concern. Especially if you live in the northeastern US were car accidents remain the highest.

Areas in the northeastern United States and along the eastern seaboard continued to have extremely high accident rates. Although the rates are higher with young males, as is normal throughout the rest of the country, there are additional factors that add to the cities having a larger vehicle safety problem.

A lot of these towns and areas have a higher density of people, therefore there’s a lot more people on a given road and there’s more construction at any given time.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2014/11/11/car-accidents/18828309/It’s something most of us do every day, yet it remains the most hazardous and potentially deadly thing we do: Driving our car.

Amazingly, there is roughly one motor vehicle accident every 10 seconds in the U.S., according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Nationally, the average U.S. driver gets into an accident once every 10 years.

Fortunately, only about 25 percent of crashes result in injury, and only about one percent end in a death. Still, that’s about 30,000 deaths per year on our nation’s highways. Despite significant advances in safety and technology, car accidents remain the leading cause of death for young adults, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report.

Crowded, traffic-choked northeastern cities, with their high populations and congested roads that are often under construction, were the U.S. cities where residents were most likely to have car accidents.

People in cities such as Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Boston, Providence, Philadelphia, Newark, Hartford, New Haven and Springfield and Worcester, Mass., are all at high risk of getting into an accident. One city in the West that’s especially hazardous is densely populated San Francisco.

If you want to avoid car accidents, head for Fort Collins, Colo., Brownsville, Texas, and Boise, Idaho, which were among the cities with the fewest accidents, per capita.

As for causes, distracted driving was the main reason for car accidents: “The research tells us that somewhere between 25-50 percent of all motor vehicle crashes in this country really have driver distraction as their root cause,” Mark Edwards, director of traffic safety at the American Automobile Association told Sixwise, an online newsletter.

Despite all the coverage about tornadoes, floods, and severe storms, driving remains the deadliest weather hazard: On average, more than 7,000 Americans die in weather-related wrecks each year on our nation’s highways, according to data from the Federal Highway Administration.

Also, brake gently to avoid skidding. If your wheels start to lock up, ease off the brake. Northeastern cities have the most car accidents
